A gas leak shut down a section of Wyandotte Street Friday morning.

Union Gas officials say at about 9 a.m., a construction crew removing asphalt damaged a two-inch gas pipeline.

Three blocks of Wyandotte Street East near Pillette Road was closed as crews fixed the ruptured line.

Firefighters also evacuated four homes in the area as a safety precaution.

Union Gas shut off the gas supply through the damaged pipeline so that we can safely conduct repairs.  Gas to about 100 customers was temporarily interrupted.

Repairs were completed in the early afternoon and customer service is expected to be restored later Friday.  Affected customers were being contacted by phone.
