Windsor police are telling business owners to check their cash boxes.

Four people have been arrested after counterfeit US$100 bills were used in the Windsor area.

Police were called to a gas station in the 1800 block of Tecumseh Road East on Wednesday.

The complainant indicated that a woman attempted to pass a counterfeit US$100 bill. The same woman passed a counterfeit bill at another gas bar in the 2900 block of Howard Avenue.

Police watched surveillance footage of the transactions and confirmed that the same woman was involved in both cases.

Officers tracked down the car the woman was in near Betts Avenue near Algonquin. After a kilometre chase, the car hit a fence and the male driver fled on foot. Three others remained in the vehicle.

A 18-year-old woman, observed in the surveillance footage, was placed under arrest without incident.

A 16-year-old teen was also arrested. A third person in the car was a 21-year-old woman, who was the registered owner of the vehicle.

Police found the 22-year-old driver hiding in a back yard in the 1600 block of California Avenue. He was also arrested without incident.

All parties are from the Toronto area except for one woman, who is from Windsor.

Police say there may be additional victims of this fraud.
