Former Windsor Spitfire Michael Giugovaz has been charged with sexual assault related to an alleged incident in Peterborough.

Peterborough police say a woman in her late teens was at a George Street establishment with friends in late July.

During the evening, police say it was reported that the victim was sexually assaulted by an unknown male.

Through the investigation the male was identified.

On August 12, the accused attended the Peterborough police station, where he was placed under arrest.

As a result of the investigation Giugovaz, 21, of Brampton, is charged with sexual assault.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 8.

Giugovaz played with the Spitfires during the 2015-2016 season, before being traded to Geulph. He also played for OHL teams in Belleville, London and Peterborough.
