Don’t be surprised if you see a flock of plastic flamingos roosting on your front lawn if you live in Windsor or Essex County.
Flocking for a Cure organizers are launching a campaign in the area to raise money for breast cancer. It is being conducted by cancer survivor Jodi Robinson and her team.
Beauties Against the Beast and the Flock of Pink Flamingos will gather upon various properties. Organizers hope the homeowners will offer a donation of $20 to refer them to someone else or $25 to have the flamingos removed.
The flocking will be in support of Robinson's venture to participate in the Susan G Komen 3 Day Walk for a Cure in August in Texas and the CIBC Run for A Cure. Robinson is a cancer survivor, wife and mom of four children.
Chantelle Foreman-Meadows agreed to sponsor the first flocking in the Windsor-Essex community, which took place Wednesday morning. It is in honour of her mother, Karen, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2011. At such an early stage, she only required a lumpectomy and radiation.
"It is because of crusaders like Jodi, that my mom was able to receive the treatment and care she required, because of funding through both of these projects,” says Foreman-Meadows. “These two organizations make leaps and bounds for women and early breast cancer detection."
