Windsor police say a five-year-old girl suffered burns after her dress caught on fire while playing with a lighter.

Fire and police are investigating the incident at a duplex in the 2600 block of Lauzon Road Thursday.

Police say the girl suffered second and third degree burns after her dress went up in flames.

Fire officials say she is in serious, but stable condition with burns to 33 per cent of her body.

The girl is being transferred to a hospital in London for treatment.

The police forensic identification unit is also on scene.

Detectives were taking pictures outside of the housing unit.
