The first public flu shot clinic of the year is being held at the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit on Tuesday.

The clinic, for families with children from six months to six years old, comes as flu season is set to get underway.

The health unit is reminding residents that the flu vaccine is the best way to protect against influenza.

Those at highest risk include; people over 65, infants six months to 59 months old, pregnant women, and anyone with chronic heart and lung disease, weakened immune systems and medical conditions.

Besides through health unit clinics, the vaccine is also available at numerous locations from the doctor's office to the pharmacy.

Along with the vaccine, hand washing, good nutrition and plenty of rest can help.

For the dates of future clinics visit the health unit's website.
