Employees and retirees at FCA Canada announced a more than $1.1 million donation to the United Way of Windsor-Essex County.

“Our FCA Canada employees never waiver from their commitment to give back to the Windsor/Essex Community through the United Way,” said Reid Bigland, president and CEO of FCA Canada in a statement.

“We realize the community is counting on our leadership, and I’m glad we can continue to deliver such good news, year after year.”

The pledge marks an increase of over $100,000 from the group's 2015 donation, and marks the company's 90th anniversary in Canada.

“Last year, the total raised by FCA Canada and UNIFOR assisted 10,674 people in Windsor and Essex County,” Lorraine Goddard, CEO of United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County, said in a statement.

“We would like to thank FCA for taking bold action against poverty in our community by ensuring that each and every employee has the opportunity to support United Way.”

The donation, which involves both Fiat-Chrysler and UNIFOR, is the biggest individual pledge for the local United Way.

It also marks more than 30 years of annual donations over $1 million from Fiat Chrysler Automobile's employees and retirees.
