The family of a Windsor man is in mourning after a tragic accident early Saturday evening.

Michael Abbott, 36, was killed after his van crashed into a tree off Concession Road 3 between Essex and Harrow.

Karey Wilson spoke to CTV News about her husband's death because she says everyone needs to know more about the wonderful man whose life was cut far too short.

Wilson says her husband had a huge heart and would go out of his way to help others, but the most important people in his life were his three young kids.

“I'm surprised. We didn't live in that area. I’m surprised he was out there,” says Wilson.

Bill Reilly says he was the first person on the scene.

“He still had life when I arrived,” says Reilly. “There was nothing I could do to save him, so I just held his hand.”

On the quiet concession road where the crash occurred, flowers have been placed at the base of the tree, where Abbott's vehicle made contact.

“He was a great father,” says his father-in law James Wilson. “He’s going to be missed.”

Police say he was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The investigation is ongoing. A post-mortem was completed on Monday.
