A large wind farm in Comber may be about to get bigger. Brookfield Renewable Energy wants to add as many as 28 turbines to the 72 that are already there.

Director of Development, Bill Lamb, says the $30-million to $40-million project is a first. "This hasn't been done before.  Most of the wind farms you hear and read about are new wind farms in 'greenfield' where there is no wind farm."

Not everyone supports the expansion.  Of 50 people at an information meeting last night, most were opposed.

Concerns ranged from declining property values and noise to the possibility of groundwater contamination and what happens to the turbines if the company goes out of business.

Brookfield expects  to hear by the end of the year if its application has been approved by the Ontario government.
