Windsor police are reminding the public of the intimate image law after a man was arrested for allegedly sharing intimate videos of his ex-girlfriend online.

Officers were dispatched to a call where a 36-year-old woman reported that her ex-boyfriend was distributing videos of her without her permission.

Investigation revealed that the woman had been in a prior dating relationship with a 27-year-old Windsor man.

During the relationship, the couple created consensual intimate image videos.

In May of 2017, the man was arrested and charged with assaulting the woman. He was released with a recognizance condition not to communicate with her.

The woman reported that on July 21, she discovered that her ex-boyfriend had sent copies of the intimate videos over the internet to acquaintances of her.

Police say the woman had never provided permission for the images to be published.

Investigators from the Major Crimes Branch continued the investigation.

The man was arrested without incident and is charged with publication of an intimate image without consent and failing to comply with a recognizance.

Police would like to remind our community that the non-consensual distribution of intimate images is indeed a Criminal Offence, punishable by up to five years in prison.

Consenting to an image being captured always carries the risk as to where that image will or may end up down the road sometime in the future. Consenting parties are urged to exercise caution in this regard.
