Essex County OPP officers were kept extremely busy during the first major winter event of 2016.

Officers responded to over 45 calls which involved either motor vehicle collisions or vehicles that ended up off the roadway in relation to the weather and road conditions.

While none of the collisions involved anyone sustaining major injuries, police say three of the incidents involved school buses and one man was arrested for impaired driving.

At about 4:45 p.m., officers were called to Laird Avenue in Essex for a male who was refusing to leave an establishment.  Police say he struck and ran over a set of garbage cans and police were called to attend.

Officers spoke to the 66-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle who allegedly exhibited signs of impairment.  He was arrested at the scene.
