Essex County provincial police responded to two separate incidents of children locked in parked vehicles.

The first call was Friday morning at 11:24 a.m. Officers were dispatched to a Mersea Road One address near Leamington after a mother had contacted police saying she accidently locked her keys in the car with a seven-month-old child inside.

OPP broke a window and rescuing the child, who was in the vehicle for about two minutes. An ambulance was called as a precaution, but the infant suffered no injuries.

The second report for a separate case was about 30 minutes later. A concerned citizen called about a one-year-old and a nine-year-old that were allegedly locked in a running car with the air conditioning on, unattended outside a Tecumseh business.

Police say their mother went into a business, leaving the children as she didn’t want to wake up the one-year-old. No injuries were reported and the Children’s Aid Society has been contacted.
