A basement fire in east Windsor has left a family of three homeless.
Windsor fire crews were called to 2040 Ferndale Ave. shortly before 6 p.m. Crews were able to respond quickly as fire hall number six is on the same block.
“I ran out of the house and I ran down to the fire department, which is three houses down from me and I told them my house is on fire,” says homeowner James Vanham.
All the occupants escaped without injury.
Investigators determined careless smoking to be the cause, leaving $180,000 damage.
It also left the house with heavy smoke and water damage.
