There’s one less candidate in the nomination race for the Ontario Liberal party’s Windsor-Tecumseh riding.

Enwin vice president Michael Duben has withdrawn his name, citing a medical issue within his family.

“Over the last few days we’ve had at least one medical issue come up that is quite serious,” says Duben. “It would have taken my attention away from the campaign. Family comes first.”

Duben says the medical issue is not within his immediate family.

“It’s not my wife or children. I don’t want to go into details about who or what it is, but it’s not a hang nail.”

Duben says it has been a tough decision.

“I went back and forth,” he says. “I really have no relief. I still feel uncomfortable about it.”

He says Liberal party members he’s spoken to about the issue have been appreciative he made the decision now.

“I know it has probably disappointed a few people,” he says.

Duben will remain in his current position at Enwin.

A Liberal nomination meeting is set for the Serbian Centre on June 27. The remaining candidates are Remy Boulbol and Jeewan Gill. The deadline to run has passed.

“There are two other very good candidates. They won’t have any other distractions,” says Duben.
