Windsor’s Downtown Mission has sold its Victoria Ave. location.

Executive Director Ron Dunn made the announcement on Wednesday morning as part of the launch for their “Building Hope” campaign.

Dunn confirms the selling price was $900,000 but he wouldn’t identify the buyer, only saying the buyer is local.

“Well I can say that there's some church services that will be held out of here,” says Dunn. “Some other programing that will happen but it fits better with the neighbourhood than we do, we've outgrown this space.”

The goal of the “Building Hope” campaign is to raise $9.1-million to help convert the Central Library at 850 Ouellette Ave into the new Downtown Mission.

So far, $2-million has been raised.

In March 2018, the mission agreed to purchase the Central branch for $3.6-million to house its administration, food services, shelter and 30 transitional apartments.

The mission takes possession of the building in June and Dunn says renovations will start immediately.

Dunn hopes they can move into the new Ouellette location by June 2020.

The mission currently offers 900 meals a day.
