A Windsor family is without a home after their house was intentionally set on fire on Saturday.
Harvinder Bal and his family of seven awoke in the early hours of Saturday to a loud bang. Minutes later, the front room of his Spago Crescent home went up in flames.
“I see flames all over there, little ones., then after two, three seconds it blew up all over and I'm taking my family out because the fire is getting worse and worse,” he says.
Bal says it was some sort of fiery cocktail that crashed through his front window. Eight people, including Bal’s two young children, wife and parents were able to escape the home safely.
“I was saying, fire get out... worried about my kids, wife, everyone. I said no body’s gonna get hurt.”
The Windsor police arson unit is now investigating and officials believe the family was targeted.
“We do not believe this is a random act. It was targeted and because it’s an ongoing investigation we can't disclose what evidence we have that allows us to draw this conclusion,” says Sgt. Matthew D’Asti.
The entire front of the home sustained an estimated $275,000 worth of damage, but what’s worse is the loss of precious family items.
Only the day before, officers were called to Bal’s house after someone tried to light his SUV on fire. He says he doesn’t know who is responsible or why he’s being targeted.
“I have no bad record; I don't know who’s targeting me. If they need something come see me, but don't hurt my family.”
