After a lengthy search for a distressed 911 caller in LaSalle, police have determined the call to be a hoax.

In a Facebook post On Tuesday, LaSalle police stated there was no victim in distress. Officials came to the conclusion after a 24 hour search for the individual, which saw an RCMP Search and Rescue plane used to canvass the area.

On April 29, 911 dispatched received 42 calls between 11:58 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. by a person sounding to be in distress.  Reception was poor and the caller’s voice was faint. The only information they could provide to police was that they were outside.

A GPS search for the phone pinpointed its location near Morton Trail and Brunet Park.

Deputy chief Dan Fantetti praised officers for their professionalism, despite the frustrating situation.
