After a lengthy search for a distressed 911 caller in LaSalle, police have determined the call to be a hoax.
In a Facebook post On Tuesday, LaSalle police stated there was no victim in distress. Officials came to the conclusion after a 24 hour search for the individual, which saw an RCMP Search and Rescue plane used to canvass the area.
On April 29, 911 dispatched received 42 calls between 11:58 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. by a person sounding to be in distress. Reception was poor and the caller’s voice was faint. The only information they could provide to police was that they were outside.
A GPS search for the phone pinpointed its location near Morton Trail and Brunet Park.
Deputy chief Dan Fantetti praised officers for their professionalism, despite the frustrating situation.
