The case of a Windsor police officer accused of trying to smuggle cocaine into the United States has been dismissed.

A Detroit prosecutor says after extensive forensic testing, the material found on Const. David Bshouty at the Ambassador Bridge was not cocaine. As a result, the case was dismissed Tuesday at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice.

The dismissal comes after the case was adjourned on May 9 so more evidence could be reviewed.

Neither Bshouty nor his lawyer would comment.

The 31-year-old was arrested on April 14 for allegedly trying to smuggle what was thought to be three grams of cocaine into the U.S. He was held in a Michigan jail for several days, where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance less than 25 grams.

Windsor police have laid an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance against Bshouty.  The charge is in relation to a small quantity of prescription narcotics, suspected to be Oxycodone.

A court date for that charge has not yet been set.
