October 8, 9, and 10 have been set aside for the oral hearing of an appeal of the decision of the City of Windsor regarding the location of the new single site acute care hospital.

The appeal was brought forward to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal by CAMPP – the Citizens for an Accountable Mega-Hospital Planning Process.

CAMPP appeal the city's re-zoning of the land at County Road 42 and the 9th concession to allow the hospital to be built on the site. The group argued that development would encourage urban sprawl and is advocating for the new hospital to be located closer to the core.

The decision to move to a full oral hearing requires the parties to provide "focus" to the issues raised in the appeal and provides timelines for the parties to comply with that "focus" request.

Windsor Regional Hospital says it is very pleased that dates have been set for the hearing of the appeal.

Windsor and Essex County mayors meanwhile sent a letter to the provincial government and Premier Doug Ford in June, suggesting all local municipalities fully support a new $2 billion mega hospital and its location.
