It was a bizarre scene on the River Canard Bridge last night after a car became wedged upright against one of the bridge's arches.

Fire crews had to free one person trapped in the vehicle, who was then transported to hospital by EMS.

The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. Sunday after a vehicle apparently failed to negotiate the curve leading to the structure.

The bridge was closed for more than a hour while crews worked to remove the upright vehicle.

The extent of the driver's injuries have not been released.
