The fate of a historic prohibition-era roadhouse in Windsor has been decided.

By a vote of 7-2 City Council opted for demolition of Abars on the River to make way for future developments.

As it stands now the nature of that development is still unknown.

The owners of the property say the plan moving forward is to the keep the property as green space and that the project can be done within 90 days.

According to a city report, Abars was built in 1904 and gained prominence for serving illegal hooch to prominent figures like Al Capone, during the prohibition era.

In 2010, it was placed on the city's heritage register for its historical significance to a by-gone era in Windsor and Detroit.
