Windsor council has asked administration to issue a formal request for proposals to outsource caretaking services.
A report brought before council tonight showed a pathway to outsource roughly 50 full time jobs - without incurring job losses of unionized care-taking staff.
The report identifies roughly $1-million dollars in potential savings for the Windsor taxpayer -- though real costs wouldn't be known until a request for proposals is issued.
City CAO Helga Reidel says concrete findings could take up to 9 months.
Cupe 543 leadership spoke against the report - saying eliminating good paying jobs goes against the city's stated objective to foster job creation. Cupe local 543 president Mark Vander Voort says the report fails to consider the effect on part-time employees.
