Windsor’s Downtown Mission is offering a chance to win a rare and beautiful ride with its first ever auto lotto.

The 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette will be raffled off along with other prizes.

It's the largest fundraising undertaking the mission has ever participated in.

Tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100. They can be purchased at the Downtown Mission.

It started off as a class project at the University of Windsor, to raise money for a local charity. When first year business student Steve Watson went to the mission, he decided he wanted to do more. So he convinced his father to donate one of his classic cars.

“A lot of these people fall through the cracks and seeing that first hand was incredible and I knew at that point that it was right," says Watson.

The Corvette will be auctioned off in November.

Organizers are hoping to raise $40,000 to $50,000.

“From about the fourth or fifth day of the month, we will see numbers in excess of 200 people coming in for our hot noon-hour meal,” says Chandra Dass, executive director. “By the end of the month it goes to 250 to 260."
