The Children's Aid Society is teaming up with Staples to help children get the school supplies they need.

Tina Gatt of the Children's Aid Society says the cost puts many of the essentials out of reach for families, a disadvantage for kids in need.

“Many of the families we work with are financially challenged,” says Gatt. “It gives our workers a chance to have a positive contact with the family bring the, those backpacks and get those children ready and positioned for success.”

A few weeks ago, Staples did their annual stuff the bus campaign. It was successful, but CAS was still short of its goal. It's now hoping for a final push, to ensure every one of their 900 children receiving services gets school supplies.

“We really get to support our families when it's needed the most," says Gatt.

A different Staples, on Tecumseh Road, had a fire a month ago and is still recovering.

The Staples on Walker Road is stepping in to help its sister store raise funds for the Rotary Club's backpack program.

Store manager Sonny Davis says the giving spirit of Windsor is truly amazing and donations of any size are appreciated.

“Yesterday we had one of our biggest donations, a lady came in, found out what the cause was and donated 100 dollars, so a nickel or 100 bucks, it all makes a difference," says Davis.

This is the sixth year the Staple on Walker Road is supporting this cause, and every dollar stays local.
