Two people have been arrested and charged in connection with a break and enter in the city's west end over the weekend.
Police were called to a house in the 1600 block of Partington Avenue on Sunday morning.
Officials say the homeowner heard individuals rummaging around in the basement and armed himself with a baseball bat.
Sgt. Matthew D'Asti says “He heard voices and one of voices said ‘Someone is home.’”
As the suspects fled there was a confrontation, during which the homeowner struck one of the suspects in the head and then both suspects fled the scene.
D’Asti says similar break-ins had happened down the street, with suspects “cutting screens and forcing patio doors [open].”
On Monday, Windsor police were alerted by a family involved in a break-in on the same street just days earlier that they had been contacted by a cheque-cashing business. It is believed a signed blank cheque was taken during that break.
An investigation led police to two males who were later arrested at a Cameron Avenue address. One had swelling to the right side of his forehead and a large bandage covering an injury.
Property suspected to be from additional break and enters was also located.
Phill Maltese, 29, has been charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime and resisting arrest.
A 17-year old male has also been charged with possessing property obtained by crime and obstructing an officer.
D’Asti says they are anticipating laying additional charges.
