Charges dropped, pleas accepted, trial confirmed in murder of UWindsor student on Walpole Island

Oyebode Oyenuga, 25, was first reported missing in February 2021, but his body wasn’t found until March 17 on Walpole Island First Nation.

Since then, eight people have been charged in connection with his disappearance and death.

Authorities allege Oyenuga was killed sometime between Feb. 1 and Feb. 4, 2021.

Murder trial in 2026

CTV News has learned Jahton Blair, 44, of Scarborough, will stand trial for first-degree murder starting on Feb. 9, 2026.

According to the indictment, Blair is also charged with kidnapping and causing “an indignity to the human remains” of Oyenuga by “burning or dismembering” his body.

Co-accused plead guilty

On the same indictment, two other people have pled guilty to serious offences.

Sacarra Johnson of Windsor pleaded guilty to kidnapping with intent and will return to court on Dec. 17 for a sentencing hearing.

Rolf Agard, also from Windsor, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and kidnapping with intent.

He was sentenced to more than eight years in prison with a DNA order and a ban on owning any weapons for the rest of his life.

Separate indictment

Four other people were charged in connection to Oyenuga’s death on a separate indictment.

Dejour Millington of Toronto was charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and causing an indignity to human remains.

He pleaded guilty to causing an indignity to a human body, which according to the Criminal Code of Canada “... undermines the administration of justice by destroying evidence.”

Millington was sentenced to 20 months in jail but was released for time already served. He is now on probation for two years and his DNA will be in the database.

Zy'Shaun Lawrence of Kitchener was facing the same charges as Millington, but he was also charged with enabling Jahton Blair to escape police.

Lawrence pled guilty to being an accessory after the fact of murder and was sentenced to 263 days in jail but was released because of time already served in custody.

Lawrence is also now on probation for two years and his DNA is in the database.

Charges dropped

The Crown Attorney’s office has now withdrawn charges against two other men.

Turuk Thomas and Nashaye Walker were charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping.

Both charges have now been dropped against both men.
