Ottawa MPs have a new piece of legislation to consider, one with a Windsor woman’s name attached to it.

Saskatchewan MP Cathay Wagantall has tabled legislation for the protection of pregnant women and their preborn child, also known as Cassie and Molly’s law.

Wagantall introduced her private members bill on Tuesday.

She heard about the death of Cassandra Kaake and her unborn child through the grassroots efforts of Molly Matters.

It’s a group of Windsorites who are calling for additional charges when a pregnant woman and her child are killed in a violent attack.

Wagantall says if passed, this legislation would create a new offence that could be laid against anyone who knowingly injures or harms an unborn child in a criminal offence on the mother.

Kaake was seven months pregnant when she was killed in her home on Dec. 11, 2014. Her unborn baby was going to be named Molly.
