A call about an erratic driver on Highway 401 early Thursday morning has led to charges against a 55-year-old man.

Chatham-Kent OPP officers were called to the eastbound 401 near Merlin Town Line around 1:40 a.m. after a complaint.

A 2012 Audi was stopped after it was clocked speeding at 133 kilometres per hour in a 100 kilometre per hour area.

Police say the driver was arrested after showing signs of alcohol impairment.

A breath test at the Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters found the driver was nearly double the legal limit.

Gregory Heckel of Fort Erie is facing three charges including; impaired driving, driving with over 80 milligrams blood alcohol content and speeding.
