Grade 8 students from an Amherstburg school were not hurt after their bus was apparently rear-ended by an alleged drunk driver while they were returning from a day trip to Niagara Falls.

Oxford County OPP responded to the collision between a vehicle and a bus at the westbound service centre on Highway 401 near Ingersoll at 9:27 p.m. Monday night.

Kyle Crowder, 24, of Tecumseh has been charged with driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol and drug),dangerous operation of motor vehicle,care of control over 80 milligrams,

carrying concealed weapon and failing to remain.

Greater Essex County District School Board spokesperson Scott Scantlebury says 52 students from Anderdon Public School were on the bus at the time of the crash.

He says there was no damage to the bus, but the board will be doing an internal investigation into the incident.

Police say the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene.

Officers have located the vehicle and as a result of investigation, Crowder was charged.

He was released on a promise to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock on July 14.
