Investigators have determined a devastating fire in east Windsor, to be arson.

Windsor Fire and Rescue Services along with investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshal say the blaze at the former Wickes Windsor Bumper Manufacturing Plant was intentionally set.

Damage to the facility is estimated at $1-million.

Crews were called out to the 9100 block of Tecumseh Road East Wednesday evening, following the discovery of thick black smoke coming from the building. It took firefighters nearly 12 hours to extinguish the fire.

Heavy machinery was brought in Friday to help investigators move debris. They’re now working on pin pointing a cause.

The plant is owned by the City of Windsor.
