Essex County waters are as frigid as ever with the recent cold snap, but that isn’t going to stop the Childcan 13th annual polar bear plunge in Kingsville, Ont., this weekend.

About 300 people are expected to participate and the goal for this year’s event is $100,000.

It takes place Saturday at Lakeside Pavillion and Cedar Beach. Registration opens at 11 a.m, with the dip scheduled for 1 p.m.

Last year over 200 dippers, sponsors and donors helped raised an all-time record of $98,000 for Childcan and the Youth and Family Resource Network.

Childcan helps children and their families cope with the diagnose of cancer through offering information as well as financial and emotional support.
