A Belle River man has been convicted of animal cruelty. Matt Major was sentenced to 12 months’ probation. In addition, he was given a five-year ban on owning animals, 60 hours of community service and a $1,000.00 fine.

In February of 2015, an underweight boxer-mix puppy named Reno was surrendered to the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society. At that time, Major was charged under the province’s O.S.P.C.A. Act with one count of permitting distress to an animal and one count of failing to comply with prescribed standards of care for an animal.

Reno has since been adopted and is back to health.
