History has already been unearthed at a Sandwich Towne construction project in Windsor.

A number of indigenous historical artifacts have been now been discovered.

Crews have been busy digging for a month at the future site of a roundabout joining Riverside Drive, University Avenue and Sandwich Street West.

An indigenous pottery sherd, a lithic drill tip and lithic debitage were unearthed.

An archaeologist has been on site, and members of the First Nations community have been informed of the findings.

The area where the artifacts were located cannot be touched until further notice, when it will have to be hand-dug.

The slated completion date for the project was September 1. Work can continue on other parts of the site and it's too soon to know if this discovery will impact the timeline.
