An arrest has been made following a potential million-dollar fire outside of Chatham.

The accused is Jean-Daniel Belley-Demaisonneuve, 24, of Quebec.

He made a brief court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to 4977 Bradley Line at 9:41 p.m. on Tuesday.

It was the home of the late John D. Bradley, a well-known Chatham-Kent communty member, who helped establish the Wheels Inn. He passed away in September.

Neighbours say the house has been vacant for months.

Crews arrived Tuesday night to find a fully involved structure fire.

Due to the extent of the fire and the condition of the structure, officials say a defensive strategy was initiated.

There were no reported injuries or fatalities.

Officials say the fire caused between $500,000 and $1 million in damage.
