Some residents are accessing the damages after an early morning fire at an Essex apartment building.

The blaze impacted eight of the 20 units.

OPP officers closed Brien Avenue from Stanley Street to Gosfield Avenue while crews battled the fire. It was reopened around 9:30 a.m.

Tenant Harry Grondin says his bedroom was right below the fire.

Grondin is faced with cleaning up the mess of water and smoke damage. His bed was covered in water and the window panes firefighters knocked in to put the fire out.

“I'm pretty frustrated,” says Grodin. “I got no clothes, no food. I got nothing.”

There were no injuries reported and police say it’s not suspicious in nature.

Some tenants went across the street to Essex Public School for the day. The gym was opened to accommodate people displaced by the blaze.
