An Amherstburg poultry company has been fined by the Ministry of Environment for failing to comply with an environmental approval for an industrial sewage works.
The ministry says due to problems with the sewage works, the Belwood Poultry Limited exceeded their effluent limits.
The approval in the Ontario Water Resource Act is designed to ensure that effluent concentration for E. coli does not exceed the pre-approved limits.
The company was fined $60,000, plus a victim surcharge of $15,000. They have 90 days to pay the fine.
