A 45-year-old Amherstburg man has been charged with following too close after a two-vehicle crash on Front Road Tuesday night.

Police say it happened around 8:40p.m., just south of Essex Road 3. Both vehicles were heading southbound.

The lead vehicle, a GM Tracker, was turning into a residence and the trailing vehicle, a Dodge Charger, rear-ended it, according to police.

The Tracker burst into flames, giving the 22-year-old driver minor burns on her hands.

“You don’t hear of that too often,” says Amherstburg Sgt. Don Brown. “We don’t know what caused it to burst into flames.”

The driver of the Charger and his three passengers were not injured.

The crash forced the road to close for at least two hours.
