An investigation by the OPP Anti-Rackets branch has determined there’s no criminal wrongdoing involved in the Town of Amherstburg’s finances.

In a statement released Thursday by the OPP, a review of the town’s books determined there is no evidence to support a criminal investigation.

The anti-racketing branch was contacted by the chief of Amherstburg police on Dec. 10, to investigate allegations of criminal wrongdoing.

The report from OPP comes days after Amherstburg council defeated a motion 4-3, to have a provincial supervisor oversee the town’s finances.

Amherstburg’s debt sits at $38 million.
