A 21-year-old Windsor man has been arrested for allegedly punching a clerk and stealing beef jerky from a convenience store.
Officers were called to the Mac's Milk store in the 2600 block of Jefferson Blvd on Thursday at 9 p.m.
Police received information that a suspect had just assaulted the clerk and had left the store and was walking south.
When officers spoke with the store employee, they were told the suspect attended the store and was seen hiding beef jerky in his clothing.
The employee asked the suspect to pay for the beef jerky. Police say the suspect proceeded to leave the store without paying.
The employee approached the suspect and was able to retrieve the stolen items.
The suspect allegedly punched the employee in the mouth, causing a cut to his lower lip. The employee went back into the store to call police.
The suspect re-entered the store and removed a box of beef jerky from the front counter and again left the store.
A citizen helped the employee get the box back from the suspect.
A brief struggle ensued and the store employee was allegedly assaulted a second time.
Even though the box was recovered, some of the beef jerky was still missing. Officers at the store observed security video of the incident.
The suspect was found in the 2700 block of Jefferson Blvd. He was arrested without incident.
Police say they recovered five packages of beef jerky that were in his possession.
Jordan Murray, 21, of Windsor is charged with robbery and failing to comply with a condition of undertaking.
