Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement on top of a heat warning for the area.

Possible high levels of air pollution are expected today in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. Hot and sunny conditions may cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon.

Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

Symptoms may include: coughing, throat irritation, headaches, or shortness of breath.

Children, seniors and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

Meanwhile a Heat Warning remains in place Thursday as well.

Temperatures will read 32 degrees with humidex values near 40.

Residents are reminded to drink plenty of liquids and to avoid long periods of activity outside.
