A local family will be heading to Sochi to cheer on their favourite athlete.

Char, Dino and Jade Agosta, the family of hockey player Meghan Agosta-Marciano, are flying to Sochi on Monday from their hometown of Ruthven.

Agosta-Marciano has won Olympic gold twice with the women’s hockey team.

She hopes to make it three gold in a row.

"She worked so hard, sacrificed so much,” says her mother Char Agosta.

They can’t wait to watch her compete.

"The whole Olympic movement is unbelievable,” says her father Nino Agosta. “It really unites the world."

The family refuses to let a terrorist threat keep them from cheering on their daughter, although they will be vigilant.

"I don't want anything to dampen our experience. We are going to be careful,” Char says.

So far, Canada has one win at the tournament and plays its second game on Monday.
