'A gift we never expected': Leamington couple celebrates $100,000 lottery win
A Leamington couple got an early Christmas gift from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
Christine Honey and Gregory Hutchinson of Leamington matched the last six of seven ENCORE numbers in exact order in the December 4, 2024 LOTTO 6/49 draw to win $100,000!
The married parents of four kids have been playing the lottery together with OLG for five years.
When playing Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max, And Lottario, they use OLG’s Quick Pick feature to make their selections and always add Encore to their tickets.
“We were at home when I started to check our tickets using the OLG app,” said Honey while she and Hutchingson visited the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up their winnings. “When I scanned our LOTTO 6/49 ticket, my eyes just about popped out of my head! Gregory was sitting across from me and saw the look on my face. He jumped up and asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ I showed him the winning message and he was shocked.”
“It’s awesome,” said Hutchinson.
“It’s a gift we never expected to receive,” added Honey. “It’s been a difficult year. We lost both of our dads, and when we won this prize, it felt like it was a gift from our fathers. We’re very grateful.”
With their winnings, the couple plans to pay some bills and go on vacation.
The winning ticket was purchased at Dairy Mart on Oak Street East in Leamington.
