Chatham-Kent police and OSPCA officials say 92 additional charges will be laid related to an alleged dog fighting ring in Tilbury.

At least three people are facing animal cruelty charges after police say about 31 pit bull-type dogs were seized.

As part of a joint forces operation, multiple warrants were executed at a residence in Tilbury East Township on Friday.

The three accused, all from the same location, have each been charged with two counts of animal cruelty and two counts of firearm-related offences.

Police say John Robert, 43, Kim Robert, 39, and Michel Gagnon, 41, are still in custody and will face the additional charges in court on Thursday.

OSPCA inspector Brad Dewar says they believe all of the dogs were owned by the accused. They are not someone’s missing pets.

“We have a substantial number of charges that are going before the courts,” says Dewar.

Dewar says they are prohibited pit bulls, under 10 years of age. He says one dog was found deceased.

Since the dogs are prohibited in Ontario, Dewar says if they are released, they would have to leave the province.

Const. Renee Cowell says the investigation is still ongoing and they are looking to the public for their help.
