Essex County OPP say a 24-year-old man has died after an industrial accident in Tecumseh.

Emergency crews were called to Prestressed Systems Inc. at 5058 Walker Rd around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

“Everybodys' in shock right now, it’s just a really freak incident,” Rob Petroni, business manager for Liuna Local 625, told AM800 News.

Petroni says something went wrong on a piece of heavy machinery.

“It let go, it malfunctioned. It’s supposed to ease off on the pressure and it didn't, it snapped,” said Petroni.

Police say a second person suffered minor injuries after being hit by the machine and was transported to hospital.

The Ministry of Labour has sent at least four people to investigate the incident.

No names have been released.

PSI makes high-tension concrete products, such as girders, for the construction industry including those on the Parkway.

According to ministry spokesperson Janet Deline, inspectors have issued one requirement to PSI to not disturb the scene. Deline says the investigation is ongoing.
