Essex County OPP say a 60-year-old woman crashed her SUV through the window of a health store on Talbot Street West in Leamington Friday morning.

The black Honda Pilot shattered the front glass window and ended up right inside Spartan Nutrition & Fitness Centres Inc. at 127 Talbot Street West. It happened around 11 a.m.

Employee Gabi Brkovic had just settled down with a tea behind the counter, when a vehicle came barrelling through the window of her workplace.  She couldn't believe her eyes.

“I was really scared,” says Brkovic. “I thought I was going to pass out. I couldn't breathe. I started seeing stars.”

Police say it appears the woman inadvertently hit the gas instead of the brake.

“We are going to investigate and find out what and how it happened,” says OPP spokesperson Const. Kevin O’Neil. “It’s difficult to say if any charges will be laid.”

The driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time. Police say she was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The only person inside the store was Brkovic, who was not hurt.

There was extensive to the building, but damage to the vehicle was minor.

Lora Cervini and her husband have owned Spartan Nutrition for nearly 20 years, but this is the first time anything like this has happened.

For now, the Cervini's will operate the business out of their Kingsville location.
