Windsor’s record breaking winter has taken its toll on the city’s budget.

A report will be brought before Windsor city council on Monday by administration that will detail an estimated budget shortfall of $1.1 million.

City treasurer Onorio Colucci says there was about a $3-million addition to winter costs. An estimated $900,000 hydro hike and a decrease to provincial offence fines revenue also contributed to the approximation.

Earlier this year, the city authorized $2-million worth of emergency funding for winter cleanup. Several other departments are also estimating surpluses.

However, Colucci says it’s not a major concern. Colucci compares it to a household budget of $50,000 being overspent by $75.

Colucci says the city has been in surplus the last several years, with that money being sent to reserve funds. If needed the city will dip into those funds if the mid-year estimate doesn’t bounce back

The city’s annual spending budget is $700 million.
