Windsor’s jobless rate continued to rise, jumping slightly in August.

Numbers released Friday morning by Statistic’s Canada indicate Windsor’s unemployment rate increased from 8.7 per cent in July to 9 per cent in August.

Statistics Canada says the country's unemployment rate in August remained unchanged from the previous month at 7.0 per cent.

The agency said 11,000 net jobs were lost between July and August of this year.

Statistics Canada says employment increased by 81,000 jobs compared to a year ago, mostly in part-time work.

It says fewer youths between the ages of 15 and 24, and women between the ages of 25 to 54, had jobs in August -- while more men between the ages of 25-54 were working.

Employment fell in Alberta and Newfoundland and Labrador, and rose in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Statistics Canada says fewer people had jobs in wholesale and retail trade, transportation and warehousing, while more people had jobs in construction, in professional, scientific and technical services, and in public administration.
