After falling for three straight months the unemployment rate in Windsor has climbed once again.

According to Statistics Canada Windsor’s jobless rate climbed 0.3 per cent to nine per cent in August.

That makes it the highest among major Canadian cities, followed closely by Montreal at 8.9 per cent.

Nationally the unemployment rate rose to 0.2 per cent to seven per cent despite adding 12,000 jobs.

The rise in Canada’s unemployment rate is largely due to more people returning to the work force.

The overall increase in the number of jobs came as full-time employment grew in August nationally, offset in part by a drop in part-time work.

The number of full-time jobs nationally increased by 54,400, while part-time employment dropped by 42,400.
