It's been 23 years since the city of Windsor last updated its parks and recreation master plan.

The first step in modernizing that plan started in the city’s south side Tuesday evening.

Residents of Ward 1 were the first in a city-wide initiative to make recommendations on the new parks and rec master plan.

These recommendations include new trails, splash pads and dog parks

Ward One Councillor Drew Dilkens says the plan will look into future expansion. “We’ve spent a lot of money in South Windsor fixing up our biggest park here and I know people are appreciative of that but we want to look forward 10 – 15 years down the road and design a plan that will take us towards what the residents are looking for."

Consultations continue until March of 2014 in all city wards with recommendations to be compiled and presented to council by the summer of 2015.

City staff says times and dates for more public meetings will be made available as the dates draw nearer.

Residents can call 311 for details.
